Camden Market in London

One of my favorite places in London that Chris and I visited was the Camden Market, which is an outdoors market in Camden Town, a district in London.  Chain stores are not permitted, so the outdoor market is filled with a variety of unique small shops selling clothing, food, knickknacks, furniture, and other various odds and ends.

Chandelier in Camden Market--it was huge and covered the ceiling of one of the stalls.

Camden Market is split into several sections and the most memorable (for me) was the Historic Stables Market.  This area used to be a huge stable and horse hospital for the horses who pulled barged along the nearby canal.  No live horses are left, but in memory of the former purpose of the stables there are huge bronze horse statues and details throughout the stables.

On many of the walls there are life size bronze horse statues.

Not all of the statues were confined to being life-sized--this horse head stood about fifteen feet tall from its base.

Even the trash bins were lavishly decorated with horse figures.

Chris and I walked through the market with our backpacks--it was a transition day from staying in one location in London to another.  Being active and seeing the markets was a fun change of pace from our previous days of relaxation, as well-deserved as they were!
